The Asbury Park Press reports that NYU's Langone Weight Management Program came under investigation after three patients died after having the bariatric procedure.

Program director Dr. George Fielding, who operated on Christie, performed one of the 2009 surgeries and was sued for wrongful death.

Fielding also worked with Jets coach Rex Ryan; Christie said he talked to Ryan about the surgery in Tuesday's press conference in Newark during which Christie took questions about his decision to undergo the procedure

When the investigation began into the deaths, there were at least six malpractice suits brought against the center including one by former New York Met Lee Mazzilli because his teenage daughter experienced stomach problems that landed her in the hospital following the operation.
