I've talked before about my love for the night sky, and with the annual Perseid meteor shower at peak activity the next few nights, it's a perfect time to find a nice, dark place to do some sky watching.

Catching some quality shooting stars takes a lot of patience and a little bit of luck. But with clear skies expected over the next few nights, and little to no moonlight, the conditions should be perfect.

Here are some tips for hopeful sky watchers:

Find a dark spot
Try to find a place away from too much light pollution. Ocean County has plenty of areas that are far from the glare of city lights.

Get comfortable
It's going to be a bit chilly tonight, so bring a jacket. And I always bring a blanket to lay down on. If you stand or sit to sky watch, you could see some shooting stars, but you'll definitely have a sore neck the next day!

Be patient
You could go out and see half a dozen meteors in the first five minutes, or you could be out for hours before catching anything. The key here is to be prepared to wait.
