Gov. Chris Christie will make an announcement Tuesday in Lavallette regarding reconstruction of the road.

Local and state officials have been talking for months about the need for the roadway to be resurfaced from Point Pleasant Beach to as far south as Island Beach State Park. That's at the tip of the barrier island that was hardest hit by Sandy.

Route 35 is the major north-south route through several devastated shore towns including Mantoloking, parts of Brick Township and Toms River, where the Ortley Beach section was particularly hard-hit.

The roadway is now open through those areas, but is in need of repair in many places.
