Christie Says NJ Gun Laws Are Strong Enough [AUDIO]

Two weeks after the movie theater massacre in Colorado that killed 12 people and wounded 58 others, Governor Chris Christie reiterates his position that New Jersey gun laws are sufficient and he does not support expanding them.

Asked whether he supports restricting online ammunition sales, Christie said the state has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation and doesn’t need any new ones.

“I don’t want the federal government either making tighter gun laws than New Jerseyans want or looser ones that residents want,” Christie said during a groundbreaking ceremony for a solar farm in Bergen County.

His comments come after U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) joined a group of lawmakers that are moving to limit the purchase of large amounts of ammunition online.

“New Jerseyans should be able to make the determination about what gun laws are governed in their state, and then its up to law enforcement to enforce and control the trafficking of firearms amongst the states” said Christie.

The Governor compared gun control laws to campaign finance reform.

“As soon as you put a new law in place, people find their way around it, so let’s just deal with enforcing the ones we have, which are some of the toughest in the country.”
