NEW YORK - Vice President -elect Mike Pence has been named the new head of Donald Trump's transition team with Chris Christie being moved down one to be one of six vice chairmen of a transition executive committee.

Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, retired lieutenant general Michael T. Flynn, Dr. Ben Carson,  former Congressman Newt Gingrich and U.S. Senator Jeff Session will also be vice chairs with Christie.

Trump praised the work Christie has done since leading the transition teams since May.

“Together this outstanding group of advisors, led by Vice President-elect Mike Pence, will build on the initial work done under the leadership of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to help prepare a transformative government ready to lead from day one,” Trump said in a statement.

“The mission of our team will be clear: put together the most highly qualified group of successful leaders who will be able to implement our change agenda in Washington. Together, we will begin the urgent task of rebuilding this nation - specifically jobs, security and opportunity. This team is going to get to work immediately to Make America Great Again.”

Christie introduced Pence to Trump during the campaign.

The New York Times reported the Trump wanted Pence's Washington connections help move the process along. Pence, currentlly the governor of Indiana, served 12 years in Congress from 2001 - 2013.

The executive committee that will include Congress Congressman Lou Barletta, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Congressman Chris Collins, Jared Kushner, Congressman Tom Marino, Rebekah Mercer, Steven Mnuchin, Congressman Devin Nunes, Anthony Scaramucci, Peter Thiel, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Trump Campaign CEO Stephen K. Bannon.

Trump hinted in a tweet early this morning that Friday would be a "busy day" with "important decisions on the people who will be running our government."
