Monday was the deadline for candidates to file a minimum of 1,000 signatures with the state Division of Elections in order to appear on the primary ballot.

A document released by the Division of Elections shows Christie filed 14,835 signatures while Buono had 9,056.

Only one Republican will challenge Christie in the primary: attorney Seth Grossman of Linwood who submitted 1,336 signatures. He had announced his candidacy for Governor in February and says Christie is not a true conservative.

Five Democrats submitted signatures including William Araujo, a member of the Edison Planning Board, Jeff Boss of Jersey City, a conspiracy theorist whose petitions had the slogan "free college, $14 minimum, dogs allowed," Troy Webster, an aide to the Mayor of East Orange and former Glen Ridge Mayor Carl Bergmanson.

The primaries will be held  on June 4.
