Christie Wouldn’t Be Happy As Vice President, Says Poll [AUDIO]

Second fiddle is not the instrument for Governor Chris Christie, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. Most New Jersey voters (52%) said Christie would not be satisfied as vice president if he were to run on the ticket with presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

According to the poll, the only people who think Christie would be satisfied as a #2 are Republicans. All other groups – political, gender and regional – said he would not be satisfied.

The poll also found Christie would give no measurable boost to the Republican presidential effort in the Garden State if he were to campaign on the same ticket as Romney.

“Governor Chris Christie is an in-the-spotlight soloist, in Trenton and on the national campaign trail,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “(New Jersey voters) know their combative ‘Jersey Guy’ Governor, and they continue to give him high marks on the way he does his job.”

By a margin of 57 to 38%, most Jersey voters approved of the job Christie is doing as Governor, close to his all-time high in an April 11 QU poll. Carroll called the approval rating a “very, very healthy number.”

“He’s a Republican Governor in a Democratic state, a state that’s so blue,” Carroll explained.

The new poll also looked at New Jersey’s heated U.S. Senate race. Democratic incumbent Robert Menendez (D) leads State Senator Joseph Kyrillos (R) by 10 points, compared to a nine-point lead last month. A poll released from Fairleigh Dickinson also showed a comfortable lead for Menendez.
