Chris Christie Explains What It Takes to Be a Leader [VIDEO/AUDIO]

There’s no denying Governor Chris Christie has a blunt, in-your-face style that many people find refreshing, but others find rude and bully-like. Christie often says you will always know where he stands.

Speaking to an audience in Washington, D.C. yesterday Christie explained why he believes you have to be yourself if you’re going to be a good leader.

“You can’t lead by being a mystery,” says Christie. “You can’t lead by being an enigma. You can’t lead by being aloof. You can’t lead by being programmed….I think you have to lead by being yourself and who you are and then people will trust you and when they trust you they’ll follow you.”

“Leadership is about nuance and about understanding and communicating to people; here is what I stand for and on these issues I will not be moved, but then on other issues leaving room for discussion,” explained Christie yesterday.

Since taking office nobody has accused Christie of being mysterious, enigmatic, aloof or programmed. Lately, many people feel he hasn’t come across as nuanced or understanding either. In fact, over the last ten days critics have blasted Christie for being too aggressive.

Two Saturdays ago, the Governor called a reporter an ‘idiot’ for asking an off-topic question and last week he got into a shouting match on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights with someone who criticized his education policies.

Meanwhile, in the nation’s capitol, the Governor also touted bi-partisanship in New Jersey and talked about how working with Democrats, he has been able to get things done. Some Democrats accuse Christie of courting a national audience because he covets higher office. The Governor consistently denies that accusation.
