Carol Scott, 61, of Leisure Village West, is said to be recovering from the harrowing experience of having her airway blocked by a piece of steak.

The urgent scene unfolded July 13 at 11:13 AM. Officers Ryan Saul, Joseph Fastige and Adam Carey were dispatched to the house on Leisure Village West, where they found Scott prone, choking and unable to disgorge the food.

Each officer performed the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge it, but each attempt failed, and Scott lost consciousness and began turning blue, police said.

The officers began administering cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Within minutes, the food loosened and ejected and the woman regained consciousness, but registered nearly no pulse, police said.

Manchester first-aiders and MONOC paramedics arrived, offered additional treatment, and she was subsequently driven to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood. She was listed, at the time, in stable condition.

Checking back with her on July 21, the officers learned that she had recovered and got a heaping helping of gratitude, police said.
