Earlier this month I passed along some tips to avoid the dreaded holiday season "porch pirates", thieves who scour neighborhoods looking for lonely packages sitting on our porches, ripe for the stealing.

A few years ago, I shared the story of my college friend's revenge on package thieves in her neighborhood (let's just say that she and her husband enlisted their dogs for some help. Yeah, it's exactly what you're thinking).

But this year, a California engineer took it to a totally different level, designing and building an elaborate high tech trap.

It involves 4 cell phones, custom built circuit boards, a lot of glitter, and some "fart spray" for good measure.
