Check Out These 2 Loves-Shawn & Sue’s Pet of the Week
This adorable little guy is Jacob, a 9 year old shih tzu that would love a great home of his own. Jacob came to us from our Newark facility when he was given up by his family who said that they could no longer care for him. Jacob is nearly blind, due to cataracts. He was a bit shy and confused when he arrived, and understandably so, but he has since settled in and is doing fine and making friends. Everyone just loves little Jacob because there is literally, nothing to not love about him. He is an absolute sweetheart that wants nothing more than to be loved and treated with kindness. Jacob is a little unsure of new situations due to his vision impairment, but he takes his time and goes slow, and he gets around just fine. He doesn't mind at all if you help him out and carry him, and he's perfectly content just to cuddle up in your lap. Jacob would love a more relaxing home without a lot of commotion. He gets along fine with well behaved dogs and cats and would make a perfect addition to any loving family.
A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATED HUMANE SOCIETY:
You would be surprised by how many special needs pets that we get in at our three Associated Humane Societies facilities. You would also be saddened by how many of these pets are given up because of their disabilities, and are overlooked because adopters "can't handle" a pet with disabilities. The truth is, the "disability" is more noticeable to us than it is to them. So many dogs and cats have come in because they have gone blind or deaf, and this made their owner sad to see them like this.
