"How much wood could a woodchuck chuck
If a woodchuck could chuck wood?
As much wood as a woodchuck could chuck,
If a woodchuck could chuck wood"
So I was looking out onto our back deck when I noticed something moving and upon further investigation, I spotted the culprit... a woodchuck! This isn't such a stretch, but I haven't spotted a groundhog in our backyard so I'm adding it to my list. So far we've had raccoons, chipmunks, fox, deer, squirrels, turtles, ducks, turkeys, skunk, snakes, and various birds. Sue describes my backyard as a petting zoo.

There are many names for the woodchuck including groundhog, chuck, wood-shock, ground pig, whistlepig, whistler, and thickwood badger.

Mr. Woodchuck wasn't doing any damage, he just seemed very curious as to all the plants and furniture on the back deck and after a quick investigation, he slipped away.
We are pretty sure he probably has a burrow close-by and he definitely was eyeing up my wife's garden. It's probably a good bet we will see him again and we may want him to relocate if he decides to make a mess of our backyard.
So here are a few questions I have for residents in Ocean and Monmouth:
  • Have YOU had a woodchuck move into your yard?
  • Did he make a mess?
  • How did YOU relocate him?
