Charges Filed Against Driver in Crash that Injured Two Pine Beach Cops

The driver from Belmar accused of running down two police officers conducting a traffic stop in Pine Beach last July awaits a hearing on two counts of assault by auto filed by Ocean County authorities.

Jeffrey S. Carstens, 43, was charged and released Friday, according to information from the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Pine Beach PD Officers Robert King and Jesse Urban were injured after being hit by Carstens's car, authorities said.

Analysis of a blood sample yielded an alcohol content above the New Jersey legal limit of 0.08 percent, investigators said.
