Linda Kellner and United Water Toms River joined a prestigious list last night when they were honored by the Toms River-Ocean County Chamber of Commerce as Citizen and Organization of the Year during a cocktail reception at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood.

Kellner returned recently to New Jersey Natural Gas after spending more than two years as the Acting Executive Director of the New Jersey Business Action Center which is a division within the New Jersey Department of State.  There she worked under Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno who surprised many by being on hand last night to honor Kellner, a longtime Toms River resident.  Gudagno presented a framed personal letter from Governor Chris Christie thanking her for her efforts to retain and bring in new companies and jobs to the state.

Accepting the Organization of the Year Award for United Water Toms River was Dennis Ciemniecki, President Regulated Business.  He praised the 56 employees who make up the Toms River staff, including Director of Operations Rick Pfleiderer.

Among former honorees of the Chamber who attended last night’s event were Paul Brush, Robert Shea, Nina Anuario, Mass Yezzi, Gary Lotano, Toms River Mayor Thomas Kelaher and Frankin H. Berry, who is Kellner’s father which makes them the first-ever parent/child Citizen of the Year recipients since the award was first given out in 1966.  I had the pleasure of serve once again as Master of Ceremonies.

I got a text message from someone late yesterday that the cast of “Jersey Shore” had arrived in Seaside Heights at what’s become their now famous shore house on Ocean Terrace between Freemont and Kearney Avenues.  It appears all of the reality show stars are in Seaside including “Snooki” and “The Situation” and filming for the sixth season of the MTV show will begin shortly.  It will also be the sixth season that I have not cared.

A few Ocean County schools will be playing for state sectional championships this afternoon.  Point Beach will host Florence on the baseball field while in softball Toms River East is home against Eastern, Central Regional visits Kingsway and New Egypt hosts Metuchen.

In Boys Volleyball top-seed Southern is home against Eastern for the South Jersey Championship.  Good luck to all the local teams.
