The Central Regional High School boys and girls basketball programs have teamed up to come to the aid of a 5-year-old Berkeley Township boy and his family.

Trevor Kwatkoski was diagnosed last April with bone cancer and has undergone numerous rounds of chemotherapy along with surgery to remove the fibula bone from his left leg. Trevor, who celebrated his 5th birthday just last week is finishing his final rounds of chemo at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. His mother Jill said he he’s a fighter who never complains and often says what he’s going though “is just what you have to do when you have cancer.” The youngest of four boys he loves baseball and riding his scooter.

This past weekend the Golden Eagles two basketball programs hosted a clinic for elementary school students with the $5.00 registration fee being donated to Team Trevor. Coaches Mike Clemente and John Truhan conducted the clinic along with players from their boys and girls teams. On Thursday night Central will host Toms River South in a girls and boys basketball doubleheader that will further support the cause which has been well received in the community.

Donations will be collected at the door and Team Trevor wristbands will be sold with that added to the money raised through the clinic as well as game sponsors. Additional support will come from the Beachwood Police Department who will be donating money they raised for Trevor and his family. On hand to make a check presentation at halftime of the boys game will be All Star third baseman and Home Run Derby champ Todd Frazier of the Chicago White Sox and Trevor and his family will be in attendance. All checks for donations should be made out to Team Trevor. The games game starts at 5pm with the boys to tip off at 7pm.

Kudos to the Central basketball programs along with Athletic Director John Scran for their time and effort to support a young boy and his family in their community. It’s an effort more noteworthy of a headline than any game result.
