Cell phone triggered Brick pedestrian accident, police say
A Brick Township 16-year-old is hurled several feet and injured after being hit by a car on a sidewalk. Police attributed it to driver inattention caused by a mobile phone.
Police said that, Vicki Asaro of the township was driving south on Sally Ike Road at about 12:43 Tuesday afternoon, and about to turn right onto Lanes Mill Road. The girl was walking nearby.
As Asaro glanced at her cell phone, the car hit a curb, a street sign, and then the teen, who sustained a leg injury and was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Asaro was ticketed for careless driving and for oiperating the vehicle while using a cell phone.
