There is no doubt the Giants Super Bowl victory provided a much-needed shot in the arm for many fans in New Jersey and at its best that’s what sports can do.

It brings together fans of all backgrounds who share a common bond and that is a passion for a team and its uniform. People who would not normally even talk to one another exchange hugs and high-fives like they are best friends even though the only think they have in common is they’re wearing Eli Manning #10 jerseys.

You’ll see plenty of that today during a ticker-tape parade in New York and then later at a rally at the Giants home…Met-Life Stadium.

The good feeling over what took place Sunday night in Indianapolis will eventually subside and even die-hard fans will no longer be focused on the Patriots but the reality of everyday life, which to be honest can be pretty depressing at times. But if you’re a Giants fan the good news is when you’re down in the dumps just think back to Manning-to-Manningham and the “Hail Mary” pass that fell to the turf. It should put a smile on your face…even if it’s just for a moment or two.

As you might have heard Madonna’s halftime show resulted in amazing activity on Twitter with over 10,000 tweets per second. I read some of them and by far the funniest was “it’s like watching your Grandmother play with the pool boy.” Another classic in regards to her appearance with Cee Lo Green….”listen to Betty White and Vince Wilfork belt out Like a Prayer.” By the way as the game ended the tweeting activity reached over 12,000 per second…second most all-time for the on-line social networking service.

And in a totally non-related item:

Gas prices are on the rise and I heard this morning that they could reach $4.00 per gallon before Memorial Day and in some cities $5 a gallon this year is a very real possibility. It’s hard to see the economy getting much better if that’s what we are facing, especially here in Ocean County with all the commuters we have. Between gas and tolls it means they’ll have less to spend on items that help the local economy.
