Celebrating or Sweeping Birthday Under The Rug?
It was great seeing so many Ocean County residents responding to my Facebook post about the show "This Is Us." Clearly most of you are fans of the TV series, like I am.
So today I want to ask about another topic near and dear to my heart: birthdays. During my years on the morning show with Shawn, he and many of you listeners indulged me in my birthday obsession. I'm so grateful!
A little background: I tend to make a big deal out of my birthday, planning multiple celebrations during what I've come to call my "birthday month." My obsession probably has to do with some unfortunate timing during my childhood. My parents annual ski trip with their church group always seemed to fall on January 14th. So since then I've felt the need to "overcelebrate" to make up for those missed birthdays.
Now the good news is that I have mellowed as I've gotten older but I still like to celebrate my special day. A few different times ;-)
But as I've gotten older I've also met more and more people who do NOT like to make a big deal out of their birthdays. I respect their decisions and try to accommodate, but honestly, it's a bit hard for me to understand.
So I'm asking those of you who are not big birthday people..."why don't you like to celebrate your birthday?"
