Complaints filed by Stafford Township police charge Eileen King, 51, with driving under the influence of prescription medicine, assault by auto, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Paige Spano, 20, of Tuckerton, sustained extensive injuries, as did the five-year-old in King's car, who wore no restraints, according to police.

The crash occurred at 7:36 PM on the highway at Mayetta Landing Road. Police said King's 2013 Chrysler 300c drifted over the double-yellow dividing line into Spano's 1995 Geo Metro.

King's bail was set at $50,000. She was taken to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail, pending a grand jury hearing to determine whether the case would be submitted to a petit jury.

The investigation was conducted by Stafford Patrolmen Justin Pascale and Allen Jillson, and by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
