Car Flips, Driver Seriously Hurt in Toms River

A Toms River 26-year-old lies in intensive care after a midday crash that flipped his Jeep onto its roof in the township.

Tim Geoghegan was flown from the site to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where police say he's awaiting surgery.

According to investigating officers, Geoghegan was broadsided by a Subaru driven by Mary Padovano, 56, of Island Heights, at 12:04 PM at the corner of Larch and Oakhill Drives.

Police say Geoghegan had the right of way, and Padovano had a stop sign. They did not disclose whether she observed the sign or proceeded after stopping, nor the approximate speeds each driver maintained.

The incident is still under investigation, and no charges have yet been filed.
