A car on Old Freehold Road in Toms River veered off the road, over a mailbox and onto the adjoining sidewalk before landing on its side early this afternoon. The crash is still being investigated.

Police Chief Mike Mastronardy has issued no identities but says that the driver was alone in the car and needed extrication by members of township volunteer Fire Companies 1 and 2.

Mastronardy says the car was headed southbound on Old Freehold when it drifted near Chestnut Street, hit the curb, slammed the mailbox and turned over. No pedestrians were reported to be injured.
