Landscapers, painters, plumbers and other service-sector businesses are the newest prospective recruits sought by Mayor John Ducey, who launched the program in 2014.

They're also encouraging home owners to keep the card handy for purchases as spring cleaning time rolls around.

"In a little less than a year and a half, Buy in Brick has earned residents $55,000 in property tax savings for shopping and dining locally," Ducey said in prepared comments.

"At the same time, participating businesses have generated more than $735,000 in sales through the program."

Merchants get exposure through the township Facebook page, news letters, and recreation brochures, as well as at public meetings and community events.

"The newsletter was mailed to every home in Brick and we have over 18,000 followers on our township Facebook page," said Councilwoman Heather deJong.

The Economic Development Committee chairwoman added that it's valuable for contractors and skilled laborers who don't necessarily have storefronts or signs.

Among the merchants active in the program cited by officials are purveyors of flooring, siding, windows, and doors, as well as electricians, builders, heating and air-conditioning firms, exterminators and carpet cleaning services.

The full list can be viewed on the Brick Township web page.
