Darius Bridges, 27, of Beverly, was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi's office.

Howard G. Young was hit by gunfire that erupted early on the evening of November 25 at the crossing of East Federal and York Streets. Young was pronounce dead at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Bernardi's statement offered no details regarding how investigators connected Bridges to the incident, how long he has been incarcerated, or the unrelated charges.

Until his initial court appearance for the charge, Bridges remains behind bars. New Jersey's bail reform law contains a provision for detention without bail until adjudication, with court approval.

Authorities seek an indictment and say that they'll bring the case to a grand jury.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
