Budget Heads Ask Treasurer For Shortfall Plan

Two top New Jersey Democrats are making it clear they expect the state treasurer to provide a plan to deal with a shortfall in state revenues.

Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo and Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Vincent Prieto on Wednesday sent a letter to Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff detailing their expectations. He’s scheduled to appear before the committees next week.

A revenue report released Tuesday shows state revenues are $230 million below Gov. Chris Christie’s projections.

The lawmakers want the treasurer to come with a plan to close the current fiscal year’s budget gap and rebalance Christie’s proposed budget for the coming fiscal year.

A spokesman for Sidamon-Eristoff did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
