A brush fire reported near the Robert J. Miller Air Park in Berkeley Township this afternoon is declared as under control. Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy said the fire was reported at around 4:05 p.m. but was tamed about an hour later.

Law enforcement officials initially had to block traffic on Pinewald Kezwick Road through the area but the roadway has been reopened.

Brian Corvinus with the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service said the fire is officially out. He credits the quick response to its early detection by the Lakewood and Cedar Bridge fire towers. However he adds, “because this is a peculiar area, we are being particularly cautious in the light of the fires that have been happening,” Corvinus said.

Pinewald and Berkeley Fire Departments, along with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service battled the fire and are keeping an eye on hotspots.
