Brush fire in Jackson

Dry brush is going up in flames in a heavily traveled section of Jackson. Police are advising drivers to reroute or expect delays.

According to an alert from the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, the fire is being battled just off Route 195, on Cedar Swamp Road.

Sheriff Mike Mastronardy reports heavy smoke drifting across Route 195 from the spot. New Jersey Forest Fire Service crews have added response teams and equipment to efforts by volunteer firefighters.

The acreage is near the Metedeconk Golf Club and the Jackson Baseball-Softball Academy, within a perimiter of Cedar Swamp and Diamond Roads. Cedar Swamp Rod divides East and West Commodore Boulevard, parallel to the interstate and a possible alternative route through the area.
