Random notes and thoughts following what was simply a spectacular summer weekend in which we finally got to turn our air conditioners off and open our windows:

The feeling among many was with 4th of July in the middle of the week both the weekend before and after would be like holiday weekends.  However I found that there seemed to be much more traffic and activity last weekend than this past one but both were good for shore area businesses who are finally getting a steady dose of nice weather after a horrid spring.

Only our current president would announce his much talked-about pick for the U.S. Supreme Court during a prime-time address from the White House. He does love the attention.   President Trump is expected to select a justice with a conservative ideology like his and that could spark a confirmation battle with liberals who fear that Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court case that upheld women’s rights to an abortion, could be overturned.  Trump makes his announcement tonight at 9 p.m.

The countdown continues to Thursday night’s Shore Sports Network All-Shore Gridiron Classic presented by InVision Eyecare.  The 41st annual meeting between recently-graduated football players from Ocean and Monmouth counties will take place at Brick Memorial High School.

Central’s Justin Fumando is the head coach of the Ocean County squad while Dan George of Long Branch will not only guide the Monmouth County All-Stars but will be inducted into the Shore Football Coaches Foundation Hall of Fame at halftime.

Also being inducted posthumously will be the Boyd Brothers. Former Central coach Joe Boyd and longtime official Hugh J. “Junie” Boyd who refereed the first and several other All-Shore Classics.

Thursday’s game will be broadcast live on 105.7FM and shoresportsnetwork.com.
