Authorities spent about two hours negotiating with the man over the phone until they finally were able to coax him to give up, according to a news release from the Brick Township Police Department.

Paramedics initially were called to the home for a reported overdose and alerted authorities after the patient became uncooperative during the first aid call and they feared the man had a weapon, according to authorities.

EMS personnel waited outside until police arrived around 5:30 p.m.. Detectives and members of the SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) secured the area.

Once the man finally agreed to come out of the home, authorities said he was taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

No one was injured and no charges have been filed at this time, according to police.
