The home in the Herbertsville section would be the first to be razed under the township's ordinance to raze abandoned properties, reports Brick Shorebeat. The project has not yet undergone bidding by contractors.

The measure, enacted under Mayor John Ducey's administration, enables the township to apply state law that allows for locally-originated demolition orders regarding structures considered abandoned.

The Property Maintenance Board issues maintenance directives to owners and subsequently can recommend demolition of no appreciable upkeep effort is seen.

The township would shoulder the cost to take it down, as well as post-demolition maintenance on the grounds, and reclaim the expense through liens that would be addressed when the tract is sold.

Citibank, the lender attached to the property, reportedly assessed deficiencies and assigned rudimentary maintenance.
