Brick Township police, with the help of students in two middle schools, say they collected nearly 43 pounds of old and outdated medications in the course of two days.

Meanwhile, in Little Egg Harbor, the wrapping is coming off Ocean County's 12th deposit box in Project Medicine Drop.

Students of Lake Riviera and Veterans Memorial Middle Schools took part in the "Lead And Seed" program, stationing themselves at the Lions Head and Greenbriar developments on January 24 and 31.

They got help from Brick PD Officers Tara Schinder and John Alexander of the Community Policing division.

Lead and Seed is described as a "youth-empowered, adult-supported, environmental approach to drug prevention for middle school age children."

Additionally, on February 3, Little Egg Harbor's police headquarters becomes the newest dropoff site in Project Medicine Drop. Anyone with prescription pills they no longer need, or expired medications, can deposit them in a secure box outside the building.

Boxes are already in place in Brick, Seaside Heights, Lacey, Manchester, Toms River, Barnegat, Berkeley Township, Lakewood, Long Beach Township, Stafford and Waretown.
