A woman traveling on Baywood Boulevard ran a stop sign at the intersection of Drum Point Road Tuesday night, striking another vehicle being driven by a 16-year-old boy with a learner's permit, according to Brick Township Police.

Authorities said 30-year-old Jeanette M. Larussa of Brick struck two wooden posts and suffered head injures as a result of not wearing her seat belt.

The other driver, Steven V. Nguyen, was not injured. Police said the vehicle he was driving left the roadway, drove across a grass median and struck a sign, injuring his passenger 44-year-old Karen L. Weisneck of Brick.

Larussa was taken Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of head and internal injuries while Weisneck was taken to Ocean Medical Center for treatment of neck and ankle injuries.

Brick Police EMS, Brick Township Volunteer First Aid and MONOC paramedics responded.

The accident forced traffic to be detoured for about three hours.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
