An Ocean County student was enjoying the view in his backyard when inspiration struck. The next thing he knew, he was headed to the nation's capital to receive the congratulations of his Congressman.

Simon Beier of Brick said that he spotted a blue heron in his backyard and used the opportunity to snap a photo. He realized that the scene would make for a great painting, and he sent it along as a submission for New Jersey's Third Congressional District Congressional Arts Competition.

His painting was chosen as the best of the bunch, and he had the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC to receive the congratulations of Congressman Tom MacArthur.

On the award winning work of art, Rep. MacArthur said, “Simon’s work is a wonderful showcase of the talent and creativity in South Jersey. As Members of Congress and visitors walk to the Capitol in DC, Simon’s work will surely be the best one showcased.”

Congratulations to Simon!
