Police say they're looking for 25-year-old Edward Smith after he re-entered his ex-girlfreind's Sawmill Road residence Saturday evening, January 28th, with a landscaping brick that struck the little girl before stealing his ex-girlfriend's 1996 Dodge Stratus. The vehicle was later found in Lakewood at the residence of a relative of Smith's.

Police say it appears Smith did not intentionally strike his daughter.

The child was transported to Ocean Medical Center for treatment of her injuries which included abrasions to her face and a laceration to the upper lip that required stitches. The child also lost a tooth in the attack.

Smith was last seen in the area of Congress Street in Lakewood but has family and contacts in the Trenton and Camden areas. He's described as a black male, 6' tall, 180 lbs., brown eyes and black hair.

A warrant for Smith's arrest was issued by Ocean County Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson for Simple Assault, Burglary, Criminal Mischief and Theft. Bail has been set at $150,000 with no 10 percent option.

Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact Brick Police Detective Robert Shepherd at 732-262-1120 or their local police department.
