Brick M.U.A. to flush out its water system

The Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority will be flushing its distribution system beginning during the week of October 9 and continuing through November.

There's not anything being reported wrong, this is just a normal cleaning of the system to make sure it's fresh and safe for consumption and bathing.

The Brick M.U.A. says distribution system flushing is a normal water system maintenance exercise and will help them provide the best quality water to customers.

They'll temporarily modify the disinfection process of water treatment from chloramine (combined) residuals to free chlorine.

Chlorine is commonly used in public water supplies as a disinfectant to clean out any toxins.

As a result of the temporary change in chlorine type, officials say customers may experience a more noticeable chlorine taste and odor in their tap as well as low water pressure and some discoloration of water which is normal and not a cause for concern.

If you are driving in areas where flushing is taking place, take it easy on the roads for the safety of yourself and employees conducting the flushing.
