Heads up if you live in Brick - according to the Brick Township Police Department, car burglaries have been spiking in the last few weeks.

BTPD posted a warning to residents just yesterday that the rash of thefts has been centered around Lanes Mill, Sally Ike, and the surrounding area recently.

The Brick Police told Patch that most of the burglaries have been to cars that have been left unlocked, but there have also been some reports of actual break-ins when valuables were in plain sight.

They're good reminders that it doesn't matter how nice your neighborhood is, the days of being able to leave your car doors unlocked have sadly passed.

In addition, it's also important to keep in mind that you never know who is walking past your car; an iPhone, wallet, or purse sitting on the seat is as good as an open invitation to criminals.

Here's the full statement from the BTPD's Facebook page, and you can read more from the Patch story by clicking here.
