Breaking News Update: Gas leak in Jackson Closes Town Hall, Roads Reopened

Construction crews struck a gas line this morning while working at Jackson Town Hall, prompting an evacuation of the building and an earlier closure of Don Connor Boulevard and West Veterans Highway, according to Township Police. The roads have been reopened, but Town Hall remains closed.

As per Fire Command on scene, due to the gas leak which is on the Don Connor side of Town Hall, students at the Switlik Elementary School are being sheltered in place inside the school. Students currently on their way to the school are being diverted to Memorial High School.

Parents are advised not to try to go to Switlik.  Authorities say the children are safe in place at this time. If there are any status changes decided by Fire Command, updates will be posted on the Jackson Police Facebook page.

Motorists are being told to avoid the area.
