The precautionary boil-water advisory in effect for the last two days in a Toms River neighborhood is over.

United Water Toms River rescinded the alert this afternoon following the return of samples from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. However, company officials suggest several steps:

  • Run water faucets for 3-5 minutes to clear out the connection and interior plumbing.
  • Clean out automatic ice makers and water chillers.
  • Drain and refill water heaters set below 113 degrees.
  • Run water softener cartridge filters through a regeneration cycle or follow manufacturer instructions.

About 450 households on 17 streets in the township's northwest section were affected since a utilities contractor punctured a 12-inch main Wednesday.

United Water maintains a customer service line, 877-565-1456, and also keeps information updates on its web page.
