Dennis O'Connell was pedaling eastbound on the state highway just east of County Route 571 about 2:30 PM Tuesday when a car hit him from behind, police said.

The driver stopped briefly and then drove off, but witnesses described a silver or light grey sedan for investigators, police said.

A 2012 Ford Taurus driven by William Johnson of Holiday City Berkeley was trailed to the Hudson City Plaza, where the description of the car and driver meshed for Patrolman Paul Bachovichin, police said.
