A North Carolina woman had to be flown to the hospital Monday after being struck on Long Beach Island by a Sport Utility Vehicle while bicycling in Harvey Cedars, according to police.

Beth Deturo, 41, of Charlotte, is believed to have suffered head trauma and was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the driver, Jennifer Budzyn, 42, of Delran, struck the bicyclist while turning onto Long Beach Boulevard from West Burlington Avenue and was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford for trouble breathing.

The accident reduced travel to one lane in both directions and remains under investigation, according to police.

Long Beach Township Police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office also assisted as well as the Barnegat Light First Aid Squad.
