The Point Pleasant man who was killed Wednesday Morning on Route 88 in Brick Township after being pinned by a tractor trailer has been identified by police as Suresh Kumar Magan.

Police say it occurred at 8:58AM Wednesday morning. The incident shut down the highway for four hours.

According to information supplied by Brick Township police, the semi and the bicyclist were stopped at a red signal at Coolidge Drive, with the bicyclist on the right side of the road. When the signal changed, the bike rider pressed forward but the truck driver began turning right on to the side street.

Police say that the impact with the cab knocked the bike rider to the pavement, where he was trapped as the semi's right rear wheels rolled over him.

The trucker, James Southrey, 47, of Sewell, immediately tried to perform CPR on the victim, say police, along with an unidentified fireman and a passing ambulance worker associated with Core Care. Police are still investigating the age of Mr. Magan.

Brick police and MONOC medical technicians transported the victim to Ocean Medical Center on Jack Martin Boulevard, where he was pronounced dead.

Police note that the bicyclist wore no helmet. An investigation into the cause continues.
