Noah Jenssen, 22, was flown to Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center with injuries that Stafford police described as "extensive." Two lanes of Route 72, near Route 9, were closed for about two hours.

Preliminary findings indicate the Jenssen was biking on the westbound side of the highway. At about 11:25 PM, Stephen Falkinburg, 41, of Seaside Heights, was also westbound, in a 2005 Dodge Neon. Impact occurred near the Holiday Inn of Manahawkin, police said.

Still to be learned are the traffic volume at that hour, lighting and related conditions that would indicate visibility factors, whether Jenssen was helmted, whether distractions affected either the bicyclist or the driver, the car's speed, and whether Jenssen was biking on the highway itself, or on the shoulder.

Anyone who is familiar with the incident is urged to call Patrolman Justin Pascale, 609-597-1189, ext. 8436.
