Before Resigning, Congressman Hired Law Firm

A south Jersey congressman hired a law firm to help with an ethics probe he was facing just before he resigned earlier this year.

Former U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews tells the Courier-Post that Washington-based Martin & Gitner was paid in January to handle procedural issues related to a House Ethics Committee investigation of his campaign spending practices. Andrews had two other firms working on the case.

The payment was disclosed in a recent campaign finance filing.

When Andrews announced his resignation in February, he said it was not because of the investigation. He took a job at a law firm.

His campaign finance records show he used donor money for frequent trips to California, where his daughter had a fledgling career in the entertainment industry.
