Howell officials on the township website posted a warning about a black bear being spotted along the west side of the Route 9 corridor near the Aldrich School and warned residents to stay away.

One resident on the Howell Township Police Facebook page wrote, "I live in Friendship Estates right off on Friendship Road and it was going towards the back roads to Wal-Mart."

In Jackson, a black bear was spotted on County Line Road at Woodmere Apartments and captured on film by Lisa Hahn in a photo she sent to Townsquare Media NJ.  “I’ve heard of bear sightings, but never have I gotten that close a view,” she told the Asbury Park Press.

Jackson police tell the newspaper the bear Hahn spotted has been tagged, monitored and weighs about 60 pounds. They won't go after the bear unless it becomes a nuisance.
