A one-car accident near Double Trouble State Park in Berkeley Township Monday afternoon has left a Bayville man with serious injuries, according to police.

Richard Escher was a passenger in a vehicle heading east on Pinewald-Keswick Road that drove off the road and struck a tree at 3:43 p.m., according to the Berkeley Township Police Department's Facebook page.

The 72-year-old suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by The Pinewald Pioneer Pioneer Fire Company. He was then flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

The driver, 74-year-old Nancy Escher, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment.

The accident is still under investigation.
