Barnegat Woman Charged with Stealing from Mother

A 59-year-old Barnegat woman awaits a court date to answer charges that she systematically siphoned $150,400 from her mother.

Evelyn Hendershot was indicted today in Ocean County Superior Court on second-degree counts of theft and financial facilitiation of criminal activity.

Authorities in Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato's office contend that Hendershot transferred money from her mother's home equity line of credit to her own bank accounts between 2005 and 2009, moving the cash to various credit cards and withdrawing from numerous automatic teller machines.

Investigators say that family members brought it to their attention.

Hendershot was released on $75,000 cash bail.
