A 15-year-old Barnegat teen suspected in a convenience store shoplifting incident, faces more serious charges when a weapon is found. Police say the juvenile was identified in surveillance footage following the theft of 6 packs cigarettes at a WAWA on Route 9 and Bayshore Drive Friday evening.  However, Police say when they caught up with him on Barnegat Boulevard near the Atlantic Heights development a few hours later, he allegedly attempted to toss a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun toward the woodline.  Police say he also had several rounds of ammo in his pants pocket.

The 15-year-old is charged with shoplifting and unlawful possession of a handgun.  He was transported to the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
