Barbecue mishap ignites Lakewood house
What started as a backyard barbecue ended in disaster in Lakewood late Thursday afternoon, after the grill tipped over and triggered a blaze that reduced the house to cinders.
According to the Lakewood Scoop, the destruction unfolded at about 5:20 PM. The grill was positioned on a deck behind the Glen Avenue home. It apparently ignited a propane tank when it fell.
Authorities did not disclose how many people where in the house but said that they were evacuated while the blaze escalated to two alarms. A short while later, the center of the roof reportedly collapsed.
No one was reported injured, but the house appears to be a total loss.
Lakewood firefighters, Emergency Medical Service and First Aid teams and Hatzolah first-aiders were among those responding.
