One by one, enthusiastic children tumble out of roaring buses, backpacks loaded, for the next steps in their educational adventures as new school terms begin. Here in Toms River, opening day of classes found kids mostly sated with summer and ready to return.

WOBM's Dianne DeOliveira spoke with students and moms while bringing her own youngster to school.

Fifth-grader Derek told her he's "excited, but very nervous. I don't know how school's going to work out. I just hope it works out fine."

Ava is a second grader who's looking forward to seeing old friends in new settings, especially her close buddies Gaby and Emily in her class.

One mom told Dianne she's "ecstatic" because "now, it's the Mom's Summer Vacation. It's hard, we're with them in the summer every single day. So, we're going to take off today and do something nice."

But some parents will find it harder to fill the sudden free time. "You're so used to having them with you 24/7," one mom admitted, "and now they're not going to be there...driving you crazy," appearing very much as though she enjoyed every minute of the insanity.

But, no worries - their first day off is three weeks away, in observance of Rosh Hashanah.
