FAIR HAVEN — Police are investigating a skimming device installed at a local ATM machine last month. More troubling for police is the fact that the machine was used during the town's popular firefighters fair.

According to Detective Jeff Jarvis, the device was installed at the First Constitution branch on Sept. 1, and removed on Sept. 11. The firefighters fair wrapped up on Sept. 2, resulting in "a lot more victims here than there would normally be for that time period," Jarvis said.

"If you used it during that time frame check your account, and if you really want to play it safe go ahead and cancel your card and get a new one," Jarvis said.

The detective said he was alerted to the device by a bank employee and that police are still investigating the incident. So far he said they have gotten reports of at least 16 people having their card information used without their permission.

Jarvis encouraged anyone who used the machine during that time who think they may have been a victim to email him at jjarvis@fhboro.net.
