Marcelo Garcia-Roque, 20, was characterized as a trespasser on the tracks at the Monroe Avenue grade crossing, according to statements the agency gave to the Asbury Park Press. The crossing sits east of the Asbury depot.

Garcia-Roque died during subsequent hospitalization, according to a spokesperson. None of the 58 passengers or workers aboard the North Jersey Coast Line train were injured.

It is the second pedestrian fatality on NJ Transit tracks in less than a week. A similar incident took place in Long Branch on September 17.
